Chester County Choral Society- Fall 2009

Welcome to the Chester County Choral Society (CCCS)!  We are a group of approximately 80 singers in our 37th year of providing our members and our audiences with memorable musical experiences.  We perform locally, nationally and internationally.

Rehearsals

Regular rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from 7:25 to 9:30 p.m.  The Fall season usually begins on the first Tuesday after Labor Day; the Spring season resumes either the last Tuesday in January or the first Tuesday in February.  Dress rehearsals are normally scheduled on the Friday evening of each concert weekend.  Regular rehearsals take place at Bayard Rustin High School off of Street Road in West Chester.  Occasionally we use the Exton Baptist Church on East Swedesford Rd. in Exton if there is a conflict at the school.  When concerts are scheduled for locations other than West Chester (i.e., Ardmore, Wilmington, etc.) one rehearsal will be held at that site.  Additional rehearsals on days other than Tuesdays may be scheduled for the entire membership or small groups at the discretion of the Director.

Attendance at all scheduled rehearsals is expected.  If you are unable to attend any of these, notice should be given to your Section Representative prior to such absence.  Per the CCCS Constitution, “The membership of any individual who misses three rehearsals per concert season shall be subject to review and re-evaluation by the Artistic Director”.

Please arrive on time for rehearsals/concerts and make sure all cell phones and beepers are silenced at these times.

Concert Schedules

At least two main concerts plus a varying number of supplementary performances are scheduled each season; the Fall concert generally takes place in early to mid December and Spring concert in late April/early May. Supplemental concert venues may include but are not limited to:   Longwood Gardens, Olde Fashioned Christmas in West Chester, The Chester County Flower at QVC, retirement communities/nursing homes, Naturalization Ceremony at the Courthouse, Dinner and Song,  etc.  Members are expected to perform at all main concerts and are encouraged to participate in as many supplemental performances as possible.

In addition, CCCS has traveled and performed abroad in the past, with members paying their own way.  Such travel will be considered in an upcoming season.  Although all members are encouraged to participate in travel, we know, due to financial and/or time constraints this is not always possible.

Concert Attire

Concert attire for women includes the long black dress (to be ordered at the beginning of the concert season and paid for by the member), black hose, black shoes and a string of pearls (26” length is recommended).  Small pearl earrings may be worn if you wish.  Information for ordering your dress from our supplier can be obtained from Hazel Bright- bill (610-399-0134).  Men wear a black tuxedo, white shirt, black tie, black cummerbund, black shoes and black socks.  Please refrain from using cologne, perfume, after-shave, strongly scented hair spray, etc. for rehearsals and concerts.

Financial Responsibilities

The dues per season are $40.00.   All music and folders, both rehearsal and concert, are provided by CCCS without charge.  All music is to be marked in pencil only.  Please be sure to have one or two with you for this purpose.

As indicated in our Director’s acceptance letter to you, submission of at least 5-10 names of individuals or businesses CCCS might contact as potential sponsors or listeners is required.  You are also encouraged to support CCCS through ticket sales and other advertising efforts.  Concert and seasonal CDs and cassettes are also available.

Additional Community Outreach

CCCS sponsors an award program entitled Excellence in Vocal Performance.  This competition is open to high school senior vocalists who either live or attend school in Chester County.  In addition to a monetary award and plaques for their schools, the winners are featured performers at our Spring concert.
